Let's Get the Ball Rolling

Alright! Finally, we're ready to go. I leave three weeks from yesterday and I cannot wait. I've been compiling a list of places to visit, museums, shows, buddhist centers, etc. I'm getting excited, and nervous. I'm going to start spreading this link around now that my posts are working.

Still waiting...

Blogger doesn't seem to want to publish my blog. Not that it matters, as you wont see this unless it gets published. But I'm, as of now, labeled as spam.

Proper Introductions

Well, I suppose that it's about time that I submit a proper entry. I suspect that most, if not all, of those who may read this will be close friends, or at least personal acquaintances of mine. But just in case, and in the spirit of being thorough, I will use this post to introduce myself.

My name is Joseph Anthony, but I go by the ubiquitous nickname of Joe. I have recently graduated SUNY Purchase College with a BA in History, as well as in Philosophy. I transfered to Purchase from Eugene Lang College, at the New School. Hailing from Westchester County, NY, I have thus spent all of my life here in New York, surrounded by, particularly in college, a liberal, artsy, alternative crowd, of which I suppose I feel a part of. I love to travel, however, and I have found that being out of my element is formative and beneificial. I have always been very inquisative, curious, and enthusiastic, three characteristic I believe have served me well, and hopefully can translate into a paid position at some point. I intend on going to Graduate school, most likely working towards a phD, but seeing how multi-dimensional and multi-talented I am, I have yet to decide in what. I am applying for a Fullbright Scholarship to teach abroad, and will most likely also teach through a private program in China in the next year or two. My main areas of interest are currently comparitive religion, archaelogy, and music. I hope to work in some degree as a journalist, freelance or otherwise, and I hope to pick up a few languages on the way. I have beginner's skills in Italian, very little in Chinese Mandarin, and I have begun to teach myself Classical Sanskrit, beginning with learning to read and write in Devanagari script. This is insufficient, however, and hopefully I can learn these and other languages fluently within my travels in the coming years. Due to my experience with philosophy, I'll probably learn some German soon enough (it will help my odds with that Fullbright, anyways.)

As you can see, I tend to be verbose, tangental, and a poor speller. What can ya do? I've come to accept it.

This 'blog' will be a way to keep in touch with friends at home, and also, hopefully, to post pictures, ideas, thoughts, observations, and whatever else.

Now, to the technical junk.

I leave for London from NY on July 3rd, and will be in town until Sunday morning, the 9th, at which time I'll depart for Amsterdam. I think I'll post my loose itinerary here, so that anyone in these cities can get in touch with me, and also so that I won't have to write this out for friends or family again.

july 3- fly to London. visit Oxford sometime
july 9- fly to Amsterdam
july 11 or so- train to Berlin
july 14 or so- train to Leipzig (or just to munich depending how much i like Berlin.)
july 17 or so- train to Vienna
july 19- train to Venice
july 20 or 21- should be in Napoli by then. No overnight stay, train to Pisciotta
July 31- follow group to Roma
august 3- go to Siena.
august 5- train to Paris
august 9- train to Prague
august 14- train to Brussels, ferry to London
august 16-fly home to NYC

And so that's it. I am currently at home, bored, hating work. I cannot wait to leave this place.

Namaste,

J.
